Robert Esposito has spent more than a decade assisting nonprofit
organizations advance the missions of their institutions throughout
the Northeast corridor and nationally. He is founder and President
of Robert Esposito Communications and Development, Inc., whose
practice focuses solely on helping nonprofit organizations leverage
limited resources to meet their institutional goals.
With extensive experience and formal education in business, Robert
began working in the independent sector as an Economic Analyst for
the Environmental Defense Fund in New York in 1989. Returning to
Philadelphia, Robert joined the Medical Center Development Office of
the University of Pennsylvania as the Director of Operations and
Finance, where he developed and implemented the systems and
operations needed to support a sophisticated development department
as it embarked upon a $200 million capital campaign.
Since 1992, he has worked with more than 80 local and national
clients to raise millions of dollars in public and private support.
During that time he has written more than 500 grant proposals to
public and private funders with an overall success rate of more than
80% funded. Through client assignments, conferences and workshops,
he has trained over 5,000 nonprofit professionals in
internal/external communications, grant proposal writing, marketing
and fund raising. As a consultant, Robert has built and managed
teams of professionals, technical and non-technical staff, and
consultants to design, develop and implement over 350 projects.
Robert frequently serves in interim senior-level development
positions for organizations in transition or in the process of
conducting executive searches. In such roles he has led the
development departments of organizations including the AIDS
Consortium of Philadelphia, the Greater Germantown Housing
Development Corporation, the AIDS Information Network, CHOICE, the
National Museum of American Jewish History, the National Center for
Educational Alliances, and the Philadelphia Association of Community
Development Corporations. Robert brings expertise in several areas
to both interim-staff and project assignments: nonprofit
communications and writing, strategic planning, corporate and
foundation relations, as well as assessing and improving development
operations. Robert's emphasis is always on institutional advancement
that strategically integrates communications, management, marketing,
and resource development capacities.
Robert took his undergraduate training at Amherst College and Oxford
University, receiving a B.A. in English from the former. He received
a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from the Wharton School
of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
